John Wick 3: Parabellum Review (Spoiler Free)
Parabellum is the latest movie in the John Wick series, starting right where we left off from the end of John Wick 2. John has just been “Excommunicado” for killing on The Continental grounds and was given an hour to do whatever he needs to do before a fourteen million dollar bounty goes into effect. Wounded and alone against every hitman looking to collect the bounty, we let the ludicrous and insane action begin!
Let me just tell you, the first twenty minutes of Parabellum alone might be the
Keanu Reeves again gives it his all in every fight scene and delivers his lines the only way Keanu can. Most of the characters we know from the series return in smaller roles this time and we get the addition of Halle Berry and her amazing dogs to add to the mix. As amazing as her scenes are in the movie though, her role in the film is minimal since the movie concentrates solely on John Wick and his attempt to stay alive.
There is a lot more “world building” into the world of John Wick which was awesome to include and grow the mythology. We see where his training began, visited a new “Continental Hotel”, saw new areas of the NY Continental and were introduced to a few new characters of this hitman world.
There is a “big bad” in this movie, but the ultimate villain(s) in this movie are all the hitmen trying to take out John. There’s plenty of them throughout the film, each with different fighting styles or weapons and it never gets boring. Especially when you see how each gets taken out.
Keeping this spoiler free is so difficult because there’s so much to say about the scenes in this movie. I want to hoot and holler and blurt every single piece of madness that I saw out but I will instead leave it like this. This movie is nuts!
If you’ve seen and enjoyed the first and second John Wick movies, you’re going to enjoy and love this one. If you just want to see a good action flick, see this great one. Are there negatives about this film, absolutely. If you overthink some of it, you’ll find them, but if you take it for what it is, which is a great action film with some superb scenes and crazy fights, I’m sure you’re going to have a great time!
